I am new to this forum but have competed in 4 bodybuilding competitions starting in 2003. I have not been nearly as successful as I would like. I am currently 49 years old and have competed in the Master's division in each contest. I am 5'7", about 180 lbs, with a 32-33 waist. I finished 3rd out of 5 in my 1st contest, 6th out 7, 3rd out of 3 and 4th out of 4. Most of the people at my gym say that I can be competitive. Apparently I am not nearly as competitive as I would like to be. Am I kidding myself in thinking that I can be competitive in bodybuilding? I know bodybuilding is supposed to be about becoming the best I can be, not about some trophy. But, why train, diet and struggle if I can't be competitive. If I just want to get into great shape, why bother stepping on stage? So, what all my rambling is leading up to is how do you know if you have what it takes to win and when do you give up and accept facts? I know I will never play basketball in the NBA so I don't bother. (slow, old, short white boys who don't shoot or jump don't fair very well.) Can I be competitive in bodybuilding? Any input is greatly appreciated.

First of all....Welcome to the boards. You will find tons of info and some of the nicest, knowledgeable people around.
Your question is a tough one without knowing you. Did you get any feedback on things that you need to work on? Did you get beat by size, condition, or both? These are things that can be improved on. You just need the right strategy for what your goals are.
How about you post some pics and a sample of your workouts and diet. There are more than enough people to help here. Several Natural pros and soon to be pros.
Good Luck!

How do you post pics? I tried importing image but couldn't figure it out?
As for workout, I have tried many but am in the middle of doing the 10 x 10 by Lawson and Holman in Ironman. I have just ordered PRRS DVD.

You will have to use a separate hosting site and paste the URL into your post. I think most everyone uses photobucket. It's free. When you post from there, use the IMG link that pops up when you mouse over the picture you uploaded. Just copy and paste the link. They also have a resize option for those with 100000000 mega pixel cameras. Give it a try.....

Welcome to the board bro.
First off your physique can be to the level where you can "compete" with the rest of the guys on stage, your genetics look fine to me. Second and most importantly, when you start using P/RR/S you will take your physique to the next level and the one after that, get ready to buy a new wardrobe though! Good luck and we'll see you on the board!

Thanks for the encouragement. I have started using P/RR/S the past few weeks and have started eating more (good food.) I find I do better with higher rep range and am trying P/RR/RR/S. I feel like it is starting to make a difference. Much more so than other training systems I have tried.
