Muppet, our 16 1/2 year old shi tzu is being put down, right about now. I WANT to be a vet tech but when it comes to euth, even if it's mercy for the animal, I just cannot handle it, let along my own dog. In my world, it would be so much easier if a person passed. Animals are my life line to the world. I stick around for them, to be their voice, to stand up for the innocents. The Bible says man is created in God's image. I think that may be a typo. Animals are by far more representative of God. There is no sin within them, no hate, no need to destroy or emotionally wound one another. Animals are what we're SUPPOSED to be like. And they never ask for anything in return, except maybe treats. So many human beings on this planet deserve to be "put down" far ahead of innocents in kill shelters. Animals that were abused and neglected, led by short leash to the room where they are destroyed. No one showing them love in their lives. But there's a place we "animal people" have called Rainbow Bridge. Google it. That's where we believe all non humans go to rest and wait for us to catch up with them. If you truly believe animals don't have souls, you have a soul that hasn't been awakened inside you that remains ignorant to the reality of who we share our planet with. I've found on BB forums that respect for animal life is close to nil. When I stand up for them I get banned and ridiculed. Well, there will be a day when those people will have to account for their actions. Anyways, off to Sarah McLachlan and a big bottle of booze. I'll do extra cardio this week. peace

Good news! Mup lives to see another day! His anal glands were REALLY backed up which would explain why he's having trouble walking, and he was really constipated. Once they relieved him of those problems he perked right up and started barking for treats. He's going on phenobarbital for his petit mal seizures. The vet didn't think he was a candidate for euth just yet. She says he's got enough spark in him that it wouldn't be necessary to hurry him along. I ordered a special bed for him to help with his arthritis and pain in his hips. It's that space age material that molds to your body. Yeah, I treat my animals like they're people because to me they are.

Another good sign, Muppet wanted a french fry and a cookie. Now he's passed out again. Busy day for a little old man. Our vet is the best. She doesn't mince words but her heart is made of gold. Anyone who devotes their lives to the healing of non humans is truly a saint. Just to piss the barbarians off I'm gonna wear a sexy PETA tank to one of the expos, maybe by next year's Arnold I'll be pretty damn buff. Ohhhhhhhh, how vicious they are. How they HATE animal advocacy. Y'all ain't been on the receiving end of a group of body builders, safe behind their screens, calling me the C word because I stand up for animals.

Muppet is MUCH MUCH better today. He's up wandering around looking for treats. His usual self! Constantly at the dog cookie cupboard. We even go near the fridge he follows expecting something! He's stuffing his face with a carrot right now. Later he'll get part of a banana. We believe in feeding our dogs fruits and veggies.

That's great news! I am very happy for you. Bless you! Thank GOD! I couldn't handle grieving right now. I know that sounds selfish but I just don't have the strength for it right now. It would really put me out of commission.

Glad to hear your dog is making it through! Just know that his time on this earth is almost over and you shouldn't grieve for him as he has lived a long great life, you should celebrate the good times that you had and are having with him now. Life on this earth is only temporary and for your dog to live this long is a blessing in it's self! Again glad to hear he's doing well!

I can tell you're an animal lover too. I believe in Rainbow Bridge, but basically it's just Heaven. I stake my own soul on the fact that animals are in Heaven with us. As my mom's best friend says, "If my cats aren't there, then I don't want to be there either!" But for now he's very perky, not in pain and bugging us all for treats and more treats galore! He's walking much better in his back legs (who knew his anal glands needed expressing! We thought it was palsy or something). So for now, a reprieve. Quality of life, that's what we're most concerned about.

His new bed has seemed to have helped with his arthritis. He's getting up and down more easily, and it's not due to pain pills because he's not getting any! His one legs tends to slip on the hardwood but otherwise he's constantly wandering around (he's basically blind so he's sniffing for food) and will have a cookie, then 5 minutes later want another cookie, then 5 minutes later another, etc etc and on through the day. Since his weight is holding just fine we go ahead and give him them. They're organic with lots of veggies in them. But this bed is great, it's called a Dogpedic and I highly recommend it to you guys with dogs who sleep on the floor. He sleeps so deeply on it and it does a great job molding to his little bones. He's very incontinent so we have to take him out a lot but he still has accidents but still, no reason to send him along to Rainbow Bridge. We know, as long as he's obsessed with food, he's got good quality of life. All organs are working great. We met a shi tzu who's 19! So who knows!
