Hey, I just wondered if anyone on here had ever given up smoking Cold Turkey or with any sort of nicotine replacement therapy, as i am going to try and give up tommorrow, i'm determined as it is for my own health. I currently smoke about 15 ciggerettes per day, but i think if i go straight down to zero that i'll be able to manage it

I agree with, E. But perhaps maybe you can replace the energy and focus you have towards cigarettes and focus more on your fitness and health.

Seek your doctor's assistance, period. We're a body building board and can support you all the way, but you need to speak to a professional. You need a full check up, blood work, etc. The doc would probably put you on Wellbutrin, that's always a possibility, or Chantix. Also depending on how long you've smoked they may want to x ray your chest/lungs. Smoking is utterly devastating to the human body. Call your doctor. I come from a family of doctors, cardiologists, and so I know my stuff. 15 a day is a shit load. Not as much as some, but you've done serious serious damage.

ps- sorry to sound gross but some people need a shot of reality. I've personally seen the cadaver of a smoker opened up. Dude, the image is with me for life.

Ok, will do. I've smoked for about 2 years now, only 15 a day for the past month or two. I've got an appointment with my doc on ship tommorrow. Going to get some nicotine patches. Going to replace nicotine with CV, to keep myself concentrating on something. Can't wait to give up. Don't want nicotine in my life any longer. Thanks for the support guys.

That's a really great attitude! not wanting it in your life anymore, that's how success happens! listen to your doctor, don't hesitate to see your doctor for any reason, and follow the plan and I bet you will kick nicotine's ASS! Within mere hours of stopping smoking you start to heal. For you, only a couple years means it will take about 4 years or so for you to be "brand new" again, meaning your lungs will have healed. You are for sure lucky. Some people have to wait many many years before their lungs function properly again. You're doing a great thing by almost completely ridding yourself of the potential for disease, heart, stroke, diabetes, cancer, etc. Keep it up!

Yeah- my mom lost a lung to cancer a couple of years ago after a life of smoking. They put her on Chantix and she went cold turkey after 40 years.

Yeah- my mom lost a lung to cancer a couple of years ago after a life of smoking. They put her on Chantix and she went cold turkey after 40 years. That's great to hear it worked for her. I hope she heals up internally, her percentages for getting life threatening diseases is down a ton, and the longer she's not smoking the better. It really chaps my ass. People and celebrities smoking like it's no biggie, setting an example for kids that smoking is cool, it's so effed up. ONE cigarette causes damage immediately. If you've seen a cadaver's lungs after years of smoking, you are so utterly disgusted the thought of smoking makes you want to vomit. Ugh it's like gangrene in there.
