I read an article yesterday written by a body builder/personal trainer. Well I would say he is more of a model type than a huge BB. Regardless, he was writing about how fruit has gotten a bad rap with BBs and how wrong it was. He says he eats 20 pieces of fruit PER day with protein and healthy fats. No white or starchy carbs at all. I love fruit , but have avoided it because of the sugar content.
Any opinions on fruit and it's pluses/minuses?
BTW I have only added one piece of fruit first thing (an hour or so before any other food) in the am, and I feel MUCH better. Bruises are gone as well.

Sapphire, unless I'm on a contest diet, I try to eat at least 1-2 pieces of fruit per day (servings). I usually have something like grapes, raspberries, cherries, grapefruit, or an apple with breakfast and I also try to have anotehr 1/2 serving to serving with my 2nd or 3rd meal. The reason it got such a bad rap is because the way fructose is processed through the liver.

Jay Robb, author of the Fat Burning Diet recommends using fruit to carb load with for breakfast and mid morning carb meals. He says fruit is good for balancing the acid and alkaline in the body.
I've used this technique for carb loading with good results.

Berries are extremely high in antioxidants! I love them as well. GO ahead, just monitor your body. Grapefruit is probably the best though! Just cut back on carbs from your other sources during the fruit meals.

Yeah Roger sometimes has people eat nothing but half a grapefruit and 6-8 oz. of beef every few hours for a day or two before a show!

I don't think fruit should be avoided when in a normal mode....only when cutting. However, unless you have a very unique metabolism, for most of us, fructose is a major contributor to increased bodyfat (if eaten in large quantities). Fructose is also an extremely poor sugar for replacing muscle glycogen, as it readily replaces liver glycogen then will be converted to triglycerides. Of course, some fruits are better than others and it is best to eat fruit with a protein, and preferably early in the day.
When preparing someone for a show or photo shoot, fruit is one of the first thing I remove from the diet (after pure junk). The nutrients that fruit provides can easily be made up by increasing one's veggie intake.
Just remember, protein and fat are essential to survival, but there is no such thing as an essential carbohydrate.

I was trying to say something along these lines, but you said it so much more eloquently!

So a person can live forever on only protein and fat? Are you counting veggies as a carb?
