Hey In your post about your macros, are the protein amounts listing as "cooked" or "uncooked" protein amounts? Big Jona! Great to see you here Good question, ironically I am typing this between bites of this 'protein' you speak of, lol! I always measure protein in cooked form - because water weight and fat content can easily be evaporated and drained with many cooking methods, especially the often used Foreman method By always using one standard, I ensure my numbers are calculated accurately, confusion is avoided, and my protein content is dense and pure across the board from mutiple sources. All in all, in an imperfect situation where you might forget the protein capita or value for certain meats, I would suggest using 7g/oz as a guideline to establish a good base amount.

I too always weigh my protein in the cooked form! Just like you said, it can change during cooking... See you in a couple months at the AC right??

I wouldn't miss it for ANYTHING man... this year is going to be EXTRA awesome, a lot of fun and good people are coming - I visit the Arnold website just to see the coundown clock and tease myself, lol! See you there man! I posted a picture of my tickets somewhere I just got from Ticketmaster this week - bring it on! GO BRANCH! I wish Stan Efferding was competing though.

AWESOME journal, A. I gotta say, that's some serious detail! I'll prob start a thread soon about this, but I see where you use these measurements... Steak, Top Loin hand-trimmed (1oz) 7g (9g fat) Chicken Breast, hand-trimmed (1oz) = 6g Turkey Breast (1oz) = 6g Two things: 1) I use... Steak, Top Loin hand-trimmed (1oz) 8g (9g fat) Chicken Breast, hand-trimmed (1oz) = 8g Turkey Breast (1oz) = 7g I'm curious if I've been under eating! 2) do you not include fish in your diet?

Looking forward to seeing you on stage, A. Just listening to the enthusiasm in your written words makes me think that this will be a BIG year for you competitively. Pulling for you big time, bro!

Mr. R!Always great to have a Pumping-Peer drop in on the Journal! 1) As far as under-eating, I would just say being hypo-caloric is hard to do, even under the circumstances of most pre-contest diets; because just like the Dinosaurs in Jurassic Park, the human body can usually 'find a way' (Jeff G.) to adapt to changes and compensate by drawing specific nutrients from varying sources. On a microscopic scale, I would suppose the gram-or-two difference between our numbers might cause an unfavorable or less than truly optimal shift in cellular anabolic responses and protein synthesis, but in my humble opinion, I believe it is arbitrary. The source of my statistics and protein content per capita can either be accepted as highly competent or overly incompetent depending on what side of the fence your political lawn chair is on; but my source was the FDA Search-able Database (which is quite a useful tool, since you can choose your own measurements and specific types of foods). Blah - did I just plug a government funded entity? TOOTHPASTE PLEASE! 2) Fish - I know man... it's missing I guess, I'm still trying to 'Find Nemo.' LOL! Basically, I did a few back-to-back show preps heavily reliant on fish as a plurality of my protein source a few years ago, and my taste buds excitation and hankering for fish went the way of the of the tireless list enumerated in Montgomery Gentry's song: Gone. I know fish ( namely, Tilapia & Cod) are usually staples within the limited protein pond that most bodybuilders go fishing for frequently when trying to attain ultra-grainy conditioning; but I have always had noted success in fat-loss by using other less pungent selections. Aside from taste and smell, the cost can also be quite prohibitive... and during my redundant strolls down the Sam's Club freezer section, I find myself MUCH more prone to reach behind the freezing glass doors for bulk chicken; somehow I have avoided absolute burn-out from eating pounds of chicken daily for nearly a decade; there is something to be said for blandness I guess. HEY - COME BACK NOW, YA HEAR! Oh feel free to rip on me for my reluctance to strictly adhere and implement the "at any cost" philosophy of muscle building!

Looking forward to seeing you on stage, A. Just listening to the enthusiasm in your written words makes me think that this will be a BIG year for you competitively. Pulling for you big time, bro! Keith WHOA, to what do I owe the honor? Thanks so much - that was unexpected and VERY appreciated ( and always needed) MC! I have to say, I never make predictions (half based on past failures to see my months of hard work actually come together during properly during those crucial fleeting minutes on stage as I had hoped, and the other half based on the fact I'm training completely natural and haven't even purchased a SINGLE supplement thus far in my prep and understand the whole of my potential won't be entirely achieved; but I am STILL LOVING it) but I really feel as though this year is different somehow; or for that matter, different for a long laundry list of reasons! Thank you so much for your words, all I can do, as can any competitor, is work very hard, never veer from the path toward success, and avoid doubt and the deflation of productive healthy self-confidence at all costs. -A

9 Weeks Out (From Show-1) Looks like its safe to say... 2lbs a week so far is the magic number Nice! [glow=red,2,300]T[/glow] Ha, very observant! I only laugh because even I didn't realize that's exactly what it has been every week thus far. I don't really pay attention to that man (weight), I use it as a reference point and since I know every other factor is being controlled, it makes " weight" slightly more relevant in the scheme of things ( in case one week I stay stagnant I know further adjustments have to be made). Weight as a measurement is a weak and often failed benchmark though, simply because it is blind, an irrelevant erroneous and careless collection of numbers that merely takes inventory of how much the gravitational force exerts on your person (oh man, even I can sense the eyes rolling at that Aaron-esque response!). Unfortunately, since I/we don't have a readily available exacting method of body composition and more importantly a true tangible frame of reference from week to week, the data relied upon is the scale and the mirror; two subjective and highly unstable systems of appraisal and critique. ---------------------------------------------------------------- I am all dressed up, with... SOMEWHERE to go for a change! I am meeting our beloved long time forum friend Gregg (SuppMan) and his lovely fiance for dinner in 45 minutes. The Mrs. and I have been hoarding a gift card from Christmas, and will be partaking in steak and steamed vegetables not long from now with good company! I am excited to be able to see and spend time with a great guy that has come to be known and loved by my whole family since the days of old when the Arnold Classic was just being surmounted and vanquished by that newly transplanted Las Vegas blond guy, and my days of standing beneath spotlights in little more than underwear had not yet commenced. Warning: Obligatory ADD moments in 3, 2, 1... I find it somewhat troubling and yet somehow still motivating, that I have yet to burst through the threshold of my mid-twenties, yet I am catching myself increasingly often reflecting back on days gone by, like a wistful old retiree. I guess some experiences gain their powerful ability to become ingrained in your conscience by their virgin nature - it is a challenging emotion to attempt illustrating by mere oratorical delineation. I'm sure many of you have felt these same infrequent yet distinct and sometimes distressing reminiscent afterthoughts. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well, with a few minutes remaining until the ship has to set sail toward the welcoming aroma of the aforesaid steakhouse... I'll touch on the workout for today that was just completed (followed by a 9-week-out photo session). It was back day... the usual litany of pulling, and more pulling, was performed in precise fashion; the note worthy aspect of the workout was the much improved vascularity that was very prominent even through the final repetition. I'm sure the increasing distance I've attained away from " Casper Status" has been aiding in that aspect as well, but more than simply gaining color was a clear collection of surfacing veins that are coming to the forefront due to dieting and the now 45-minutes of daily cardio ( as of last week). A small, yet rewarding and refreshing new surprise that left me somewhat satisfied with where my physique is at this point - early on in the game-plan by most considerations. My trainer and nutritionist, Steel Beauty, suffered an unfortunate and VERY painful smashing-of-the-fingers effect ( medical terminology, hope it wasn't to fancy to follow for the lay person here on the forum!) from doing incline bench dumbbell rows... TWICE!! The second time was the most severe, and caused her to cut her workout short, and seek out the closest frozen object to hold against her hand in a panicked hurry. The reports and x-rays have all come back negative for any traumatic injury or compound fractures necessitating surgery or rehabilitation ( sarcasm, noted... haha, she's going to slap me!) Well... that is all for now - I am attaching a picture of some of the " Artwork" I was able to create on the rubber canvas beneath my feet, while putting in work at thy altar of one-arm rows; I call it 'Impressionistic Sweat.' HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND, and I will be hoping all of you continue to stop by and offer your thoughts during the proceeding 9-weeks " and BEYOND" as Tim Allen would say Attachments:

AWESOME - then we'll see you there!!! I am planning on just visiting the show/city for the day as usual, and not competing. I never miss an opportunity to hang with the big man. That show is always fun... and long, lol. I am vehemently opposed to the Mr. Canton, although it might be fun to attend if you live in the area to kill some time on a Saturday, it is such a mom and pop type of set-up, the winner is of course always from the sponsoring gym, and can still win even if he looks and acts like a pregnant Frankenstein. I'm so pumped about the entire 2010 contest season... the Arnold is in 38 days I believe (the website gives a count down clock), and of course the... OLYMPIA (or as I call it, ahem, the " YEAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!").
